Introducing Shayne Silvers

Hi All,

I am indeed very excited to be starting to build on the good work and increasing the success that the Kariong Neighbourhood Centre has achieved over its 25 years working in the Kariong Community. Our capacity as an organisation has been built due to the generosity and skills of the many people who have worked at the Centre over the years.

I sincerely appreciate the warm welcome and support I have received from you.

To tell you a little about me…

I am passionate about people feeling valued, their differences respected, and their basic needs met so they can live in dignity.

I have occupied various roles in the humanities and community sector over the past thirty years.

Throughout my career I have demonstrated my commitment to the education and promotion of issues affecting community members which has seen me over the years facilitate cross cultural and domestic violence groups, grief and loss support groups, parenting groups, anxiety management and self-esteem groups, pregnancy counselling and coordination of young mum’s group.

I have a personal philosophy of lifelong learning. My belief in the importance of collaboration and partnership building has enabled me to cement solid professional partnerships with a number of government and non-government organisations including TAFE and Newcastle University.

I am a Justice of the Peace, hold a Bachelor degree in Social Science, Business and Advanced Management Diplomas and a Graduate of the Sydney Leadership Australia Program.  A recipient of the Central Coast Business Women Award,  and Gosford City Council’s Local Hero Award.  In 2016 I was thrilled to be a recipient of the Central Coast Community Women’s Health Centre ‘F’ Award – Fantastic Female Leadership Award for Women in Business.

Finally, I would like to thank you, our members and those in the community who use our services for your support, friendship and trust. With the future in mind, I look forward to continuing to offer more programs and services that meet the needs of our community.

Together I believe, we can break social isolation and continue to build a strong, resilient community which values and includes each and every member.
